This year a group of local high school baseball coaches has founded a Homeschool Varsity Baseball Team. This creates an opportunity for Homeschool athletes to play the game at the Varsity level, competing against other schools. Our home field is located at the Montezuma Ruritan Park, where we have been playing for the last several years. Blue Ridge Christian School was not able to keep their team going because of an inability to recruit students to the program. Last year we had 13 on the roster and only two of them were from the school, and the rest from the homeschool community. We are thankful for the many years of an excellent relationship with BRCS, and all they have done to keep this team moving. The intent is to keep this program going indefinitely into the future. We also allow students from small private schools to try out if their schools will allow it. We have 2 schools represented this year in addition to home school students. We have a schedule of 25 games currently with opponents ranging from local Christian and public schools, with away games as far as Richmond and Northern Virginia. We will end out the season with a trip to Tennessee, competing against Christian schools from throughout the east coast.
We have a solid bunch of young men on the team. We start each practice with time reading the Bible as a devotional. Our main goal is to be a Christ centered team while teaching the fundamentals of the game at a very high level. We have seen great fruit over the years in having a small role in coaching young men with influence toward Godliness and a high level of character.
Our expected budget for this season is $15,000 to help pay for all of the items involved such as equipment, uniforms, umpires, and travel. We are well under way and and are thankful for the businesses that have given generously toward this team. For business sponsors, our announcer will thank each one at the home games. We will also have a banner with the sponsors listed which will hang behind each bleacher for all to see. Please consider donating for this 2024 season.
